I am mostly a MMO/Diablo type gamer. I play WoW, FFXIV, D3 and games like these. I recently purchased a ASUS 27" 2560x1440 monitor and my old GTX 460 (Amazing for 1200p for the last 2 yrs) is not cutting it. Instead of just upgrading the GPU on an older system I am going to just build an all new one.

I have one major requirement. I have to be able to run all my games at absolute maximum detail. I want to experience the best my games have to offer. If I want average details I will play my PS3 (soon to be my PS4). I designed a system that I think looks pretty good, but would like some feedback from other builders.

Note: I am an IT developer so I use my machine for work, but most of my work is done via RDC so the machine doesn't matter much on that end.

CPU Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Combo or $339.99
CPU Cooler Cooler Master Hyper TX3 54.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing $16.99
Motherboard MSI Z87 MPOWER ATX LGA1150 Combo or $221.13
Memory Crucial Ballistix Tactical 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 $129.99
Storage Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" SSD $178.99
Video Card EVGA GeForce GTX 770 2GB $399.99
Case NZXT Phantom 630 (Gunmetal) ATX Full Tower $159.99
Power Supply Rosewill 750W ATX12V / EPS12V $173.37
Optical Drive Pioneer BDR-208DBK Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer $59.99

I already have these -
Operating System Microsoft Windows 8 Professional (OEM) (64-bit) $129.98
Monitor Asus PB278Q 27.0" $553.99
Keyboard Logitech G19 $129.99
Mouse Logitech G400 Wired Optical $46.99

My main concern is the resolution of my new monitor. Can a single GTX 770 pump out solid frames (60 avg fps+) on a 2560x1440? This setup I have is flexible enough to add another 770 if I need to. I just picked a random CPU cooler because I don't know what a good current one is. Also this site did not have the case I want NZXT Phantom 530 that comes out on 9/1. I want to build this as soon as I can get the case.

Is this hardcore overkill if I am not going to be playing games like Crysis 3?
If yes; what should I downgrade to save some $$$?
If not; should I get another GTX 770 and go SLI?
One last question - what is a good 2.1 speaker system to go with this. My Logitech z4 set is pretty worn?

You could even go with the i5 4670k if you wanted to save a bit more money. The difference between the i5 and i7 in gaming is a few fps at best. The CM hyper EVO does a good job cooling my 4670k overclocked to 4.4ghz, so I would recommend it.
Games dont benefit from your hyperthreading processor so save and get the 4570K instead

The tx3 is a small cooler and not worth fitting IMO . Many people use the CM Hyper 212 and get great results . Likewise the Xigmatek 1283 .

No need for 16 gig of RAM for gaming . Even 8 is overkill , but justifiable

For speakers try the Creative T40's . Not 2.1 , just 2 , but they dont need the sub to sound good

If it's just for gaming, and budget an issue, Id consider a 4670k and games wont use hyperthreading

If you are doing anything more than a tiny OC, I'd invest more money in a top notch cooler. Nothing tops the Phanteks PH-TC14 ... well Corsair 100i beats it by 0.5C but the Corsair is , and no not kidding, 128 times louder .... each 3db is a doubling of sound pressure so 2^7th power

Phantom 630 = 8.95 rating

Corsair 500R = 9.25 rating

Corsair 500R w/ HX850 combo is $230....Your combo is $330 .... ya save $100 and this is much better .... also 750 watts is light for twin 770s on oveclocked system.... HX850 gets 10.0 jonnyguru performance rating

I have done several Corsair / White Phanteks builds ... very perty

Little more money but this RAM matches color scheme

Motherboards .... Consider the Asus Maximus IV Formula - I saved ya $100 on the case and maybe $100 on the CPU if ya don't need HT....spend $79 of it here

I haven't looked at it much but this is a directed supposedly at 4k monitors so ya might wanna give it more scrutiny than I did.

If thatz the Superclocked version of the EVGA card, Id switch .... EVGA is the only major manufacturer I know of that sells a factory overclocked card which doesn't have a custom PCB and beefed up VRM. Id get the MSI N770 .... and yes 2 of them at your resolution.

then again, if you are waiting for the case in September, might wanna wait for the Poseidon.

Thank you. Very constructive posts. Money is not really an issue, but I don't see any need to waste it either. I do some video rendering and I believe that benefits from HT, but I don't do much so I don't think that is critical. I like some of the features of the new Z87 boards and that is the main reason I wanted haswell over previous gens CPUs. I like the case that Jack pointed out. I also like the cooler. I don't OC much, but I also like my parts to be very very happy.

Outlander. I will take your advice and drop down to 8gb RAM. RAM is so much more expensive then I was a year and half ago. I got an 8gb g-skill ddr3 set for 19.99. Now they are like 70. Crazy how much RAM fluxes. If it was still 20 bucks for 8 I would get 16 just for the heck of it :)

Jack, As for the Mushkin RAM. I have always used Crucial in all my builds and love it, but the Red theme inside would be sexy. I will give them a shot. Same for the Mobo. MSI has been good to me, but I want this build to be a large step above what I have done in the past. That mobo would be a beauty. The biggest question I had was the GTX 770 and you said what I expected. Two of the in SLI in order to ensure I can run at max settings. I will do this for sure. Your post was infinitely helpful to me. This also means I don't need to wait for the new case to come out on 9/1. That is great. I will be able to go to Microcenter and get started right away. I am going to redesign my build. I will post a pick when its all done. I am even more excited now then I was before I posted.

Thank you all for the great input.
