I installed a 512mb DDR chip in a dell inspiron 1000 not knowing that it already had a 256mb chip soldered internally. After installing the 512mb chip the display began to flicker enough to induce a seizure. After seeing this i quickly shut down the laptop and removed the 512 chip hoping it would revert to its original non-seizure inducing display. It's precisely the same with or without the 512mb chip installed.

I've run a memory test and all is well.
I tried to update the bios but it's already current.
Would installing a 256mb chip fix the problem or did i damage the motherboard?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately it does not seem to be an issue due to the RAM.

It is possibly that you partially dislodged one of the display cables, or you could have possibly shocked a component with static build up.

Can you plug the laptop into an external monitor? Does it still flicker?
