I installed a 512mb DDR chip in a dell inspiron 1000 not knowing that it already had a 256mb chip soldered internally. After installing the 512mb chip the display began to flicker enough to induce a seizure. After seeing this i quickly shut down the laptop and removed the 512 chip hoping it would revert to its original non-seizure inducing display. It's precisely the same with or without the 512mb chip installed.

I've run a memory test and all is well.
I tried to update the bios but it's already current.
Would installing a 256mb chip fix the problem or did i damage the motherboard?
Could it be a power issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
