Hi!
I'm about to "build" af pfsense box, and need at least 3 NIC's.
I have 1 onboard NIC so I need to buy 2 more. I have 4 PCI ports available for the purpose:
1x PCIe X1
1x PCI 32bit (ordinary white slot)
1x PCIe X4
1x PCIe x16
The 3 PCIe connectors all have different widths.
My questions are: Will all of these ports be plenty fast enough for a gigabit NIC? Can a PCIe x1 NIC be used in the PCIe X4 and X16 ports?
Any downsides to using PCIe NIC's?
Thanks in advance!
