Surge protector problem

I have the Belkin 12 Outlet Home/Office Surge Protector Joules surge protector but just in the last couple days the not grounded red light is on. I have my Plasma TV, Blu-ray player HD cable box and A/V receiver all connected to it. I've plugged it into outlets in 3 different rooms and the red light comes on in all the rooms. Is the device faulty? I can't believe my apartment is suddenly not grounded.

This is a bit misguided. Having a third-prong ground can significantly reduce shock hazards and prevent fires in poorly wired systems. While there is a risk of ground feedback from lightning...

My guess would be that the surge protector is faulty, especially since you plugged it into other outlets with the same results. However, I'd personally recommend having the outlets checked (or check them yourself with a tester if you are so inclined) just to be certain there is not a looming wiring problem.

Hi, You should be happy and feel lucky that the grounding is out because this will reduce your risk for your equipment to be faulty.
Basically the possibility of an lightning to strike the ground and feedback to your home will be much higher than it strike your home direct and being transfer to the ground, the best solution for you is to buy a latest series surge protector which don't even need grounding.
you can check it out at www.surgetek-ap.com for more detail, it can block 99.9% of surge energy and 30 days money back guaranty.

This is a bit misguided. Having a third-prong ground can significantly reduce shock hazards and prevent fires in poorly wired systems. While there is a risk of ground feedback from lightning strikes, this is usually on the case in older houses or houses with poor wiring (at least, in the US, not sure of other country's standards).

The 2-prong surge protectors still need ground, they just don't have a third-prong earth ground being used to ground their whole system - they have protective circuitry (hopefully) for over current, shorts, transient suppression etc. But I would still use a high-current earth ground to reduce the hazards of not having it.

Hey Jammer's, you can have an electrician come out and test your mains. Or, if you know someone with a mains-rated voltmeter, have them come out and test your outlets -- but its more than likely your belkin is faulty.
