Hello. I'm building a Gaming Media HTPC to play Civ 5 (or 6) and Heroes of M&M; not a lo of FPS though. I want it as quiet as possible. I've got some starting hardware: 1 Sapphire HD 7850 and 2 WD10EZEX Hard Drives. I already own this hardware; I need help with the rest. I want to use this on a 55% LCD TV at hi-def. Big deal is: I want it QUIET and to fit in my Media Center. I'd appreciate any and all help. Thank you!

I have a HTPC in a Silverstone Grandia SST GD05B case and love it. Lots of air flow, front usb 3, lots of room (for a HTPC anyway) but, I agree with bigshootr8: replace the fans, the stock one are kinda loud. To keep heat, and therefore fan speed, down I would stick with Intel cpus. I have a core i3 3220 in mine and it runs almost everything fine (paired with a 1GB radeon 6850). The dual core cpu is a little slow on Civ 5 for me. I am not sure what your budget is but, if you can afford it go up to a core i5 3350P: quad core, 3.3 GHz and only 69w power. I built a rig for my wife with a 3350p and radeon 7850 and it plays everything.

Well what I would get would be something like a h80i in a itx case something like the prodigy. I would get noctua nf-12's to replace the fans they are quiet and among the best performing fans out there. Do you intend to watch blu rays or just normal dvd content. If you go with blu ray content I'd get powerdvd by cyberlink.

Agreed I'd probably side with a cheaper i5 as well. Just for the fact that there are quite a few programs that are optimized for 4 cores.
