Help me chose a graphics card (5970 vs 6990 vs 7970)

Hi,

It is first time I am posting in Tom's Hardware. I am badly confused with the following options I have:

HD 5970 for 240$ (used)
HD 6990 for 400$ (used)
HD 7970 for 420$ (new)

Here I consider sharing my priorities:

-I need to use the graphics card for one year from now. And then I will sell it. So I am more attracted to used cards due to less price drop.

-I want to play tomb raider with ultimate graphics settings ( tressfx on) at 1900x1080 resolution. I am fine if I get around 40-45 avg. fps. but higher is better of course.

-I need to know, are 6990 and 7970 worth the extra money than 5970?

-I know 5970 is older, but if it performs good enough for one more year, I do not consider the need of spending extra money on the newer one.

- I currently have a workstation grade graphics solution Nvidia quadro 4000. I am a CAD professional that's why I gave it a shot. But I am not satisfied and want to switch to a gaming solution, since I also play games in free time. So I also need to know which of these gaming cards also perform good at CAD applications, esp. solidworks and 3DS Max.

Dear graphics card experts! Keeping in mind my priorities, please help me chose the best out of 3 options that would keep me happy for a year from now.

Many thanks.

For 3DS max you want an nVidia solution....CUDA driven application

For 3D AutoCAD you want an nVidia solution, its just better

For Solidworks...

5970 is old and will not run current games at good fps and the 6990 is faster than the 7970 but needs a big psu to run and it's a dual gpu card and not all games like such cards . again the 6990 is faster but not much and the 7970 is 20 more and requires less power to run

PS where are you buying from ?

I live in Pakistan and I am purchasing the used cards from the home users inside Pakistan. And 7970 is highly available in market.
Also I have no problem powering the 6990, do you still recommend 7970, keeping in mind the resale value after one year? The used 6990 still has 11 months warranty remaining.

I read some where that single GPU is better than the dual. And there are CF issues associated with them. That is the only reason why I am reluctant to chose 6990. Do you have any idea what are these dual GPU issues? Do they happen with the newer games as well? with the latest drivers?

For Solidworks, you'll want the workstation card, gaming cards are not supported
