When I plug my usb from my computer to my monitor (type A to type B respectively), isn't it true that my 2 usb ports on the side should be turned on?
I have the latest driver for my monitor (hp w2207 Wide LCD Monitor 3.0.0.0).
It would be very handy to have the usb slots this close to me.

If you have your monitor's driver installed and a working USB cable between the monitor and PC, it should work yes.
1) Can you test the cable somewhere else?
2) You aren't plugged into a USB3.0 port instead of a USB2.0 port and failed to load the USB3.0 drivers loaded, are you?
3) Have you tested that the port you are plugged into is working?

Yes, there is a cable coming from one of my usb 2.0 slots in the back of my computer to the monitor. When I plug it in, the computer registers it, there is a USB plug in sound. It displays that the device is working correctly in the bottom right, with a green checkmark.
