What happends if my SSD dies? Can I just reinstall windows on a new SSD without any problems? Or will I have to do a phone activation?

If the motherboard is the same, no issues. Assuming you mean win-7.

Sorry, I meant W8. I edited the thread title to reflect that.

Thank you Windows 8 oem does not exist. The win-8 license (your key) can be installed on unlimited hardrives, ssd's as you like, BUT can only be "activated" on ONE computer at any time. So no problem if your ssd takes a nap...Enjoy

From M'soft Answers:-
You can reinstall as many times as you like, but there is a likely possibility you might have to reactivate by telephone after the 5th time.
1) Press Windows key + R, then type: slui.exe 4

2) Next press the 'ENTER' key

3) Select your 'Country' from the list.

4) Choose the 'Phone Activation' option.

5) Stay on the phone (do not select/press any options) and wait for a person to help you with activation.

6) Explain your problem clearly to the support person.

All very true, except the OEM key won't allow you to download W8 from the only known legal download source (Upgrade version) which is one huge pain in the proverbial if your OEM OS drive fails and you haven't provided a backup. So take the time to at least create a System Image just in case...

Windows 8 Pro will include features like BitLocker and BitLocker To Go, support for Boot from VHD, Client Hyper-V, Domain Join, Encrypting File System, Group Policy, and Remote Desktop (host). Windows Media Center though supported, will be available as a separate add-on.

Both will work.
