Just a simple google search "gigabyte ga-990fxa-ud3 overheating" gives me results of people really having the board overheat and cause problems. But if I search for the "ud5" version about it over heating, and I get no results indicating that people had problems with the ud5. So is it just worth the $40 extra to upgrade to the ud5?

So is it worth it to get the UD5? Probably not. I'm looking at some of these forums where people have temperature issues with the board and it seems it's due to their CPU having outrageous temperatures due to dried thermal paste or crappy stock heatsinks while trying to overclock. So in the end, I'd say the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 is just fine.
