Firstly, I know my board isn't necessarily recommended for any overclocking. I built my system on a budget, and got a good deal on a MOBO/CPU bundle on Tigerdirect, so that's what I've got to work with.
However, I've taken necessary precautions and reached a small, stable increase on my AMD FX-4130 CPU, increasing it from 3.8GHz to 4.1GHz. VRM temps stay within desired levels, even under load.
The system has never shut down during a stress test, and I've never seen a BSOD. All signs point to a stable, usable overclock from multiple software sources, as well as my own hands on in-game testing.

My only concern is that applying any overclocking whatsoever, even as little as 3.8GHz to 3.9GHz, forces the system to reboot moments after startup. From a cold boot, I hit the power and the fans engage, and LED's turn on. After a second, it powers back down. Another second and it boots back up normally.

I have read that this could be a safety precaution from the BIOS not agreeing with my overclock and restarting under default settings. However, using monitoring software I can see that my CPU is still running at OC specs, and I get the same average increase to FPS in tested games, so I don't think this is the case.

I found one vague post on another forum stating that this is just a feature of many Gigabyte boards. They power on, the BIOS recognizes OC'd settings, and then has to restart to apply them. Can anyone confirm this?

I'd like to proceed confidently knowing that this is the case before doing any overclocking that requires me to alter voltages.

Specs are as follows:
GA-970A-DS3 MOBO
AMD FX-4130 Black Ed. (Idle ~4c, load ~30c)
CM Hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler
Asus Radeon HD7770
2x 4GB Kingston HyperX Beast 1600MHz
Antec Eleven Hundred case with all fan mounts filled.

Thanks! Sorry if it's a long read. Been scanning thread after thread and finding issues that are similar, but never enough for the answers to apply to mine. Trying to be thorough!

It's a common enough issue it seems, but more often than not it's linked to problems that I don't seem to have, which is why I'm confused. Best case scenario is that post was correct, and it is a common feature with Gigabyte boards. I'm hoping someone more familiar with OC'ing on a Gigabyte MOBO can provide some insight.

And yes, it idles at around 4c, in good ol' sunny California. It seemed abnormally low for an air cooled system to me as well, but I cross checked it with just about every monitoring program I could find. It sits around 12c when I check in BIOS, but it's normal for your temps to read higher in BIOS since your CPU doesn't idle.
