I recently got an HP Wx4600 workstation witch comes with the e8500 Wolfdale processor
I always install Open Hardware Monitor on my machines to keep an eye on the temps and noticed it was idling at 40-44C! I installed realtemp and ran prime95 and it went up to around 72-76C!

There is no dust inside the tower and I have reseated the heat sink and applied new thermal paste but haven't really noticed any difference.

I was considering buying a better cooler but the wx4600 already comes with a decent tower cooler so I dont think it should need it.

is it possible that it just a particularly hot cpu?
Is it worth buying a better cooler and if so what one (the CM212 wont fit)
I have ordered some better thermal paste in the mean time to see if that drops it abit.

I realise there have already been a few questions about hot e8500's but not on a standard setup.

Ive replaced the fan on the heatsink with a Arctic F8 and now it idles at 37-41C and when running prime95 it got to 68C So its dropped by 8c

looks like I need a better cooler as I'd like to keep it below 60
My case is only around 6.5 inches wide so a CM 121 is out of the question :/

Can anyone recommend a decent cooler that will fit my case? preferably cheap :)
