i just logged on this morning to order the rest of my parts for my new PC build only to find newegg offering a package deal on the mobo and cpu i want http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1418018 when i go to check out an authorization comes up about the cpu being OEM and theres stipulations apon buying this said CPU.

my concern is warranty. what are the odds of a cpu crapping out after the 30 day inhouse newegg warranty? is it peace of mind to just get the retail version?

any feedback will be appreciated.

I'm not seeing anything which would indicate that the CPU you are purchasing is OEM; meaning CPU only. It appears to be a retail version of the CPU which includes the stock Intel heat sink and fan.

I'm guessing that what you're seeing is Newegg's CPU Replacement Only Return Policy which is effective for only 30 days. This means that if you find the CPU defective in ways covered by Newegg, you can return it for a replacement CPU. After 30 days, the CPU is still covered by Intel's 3 year limited warranty.

I wouldn't worry about it.
