How much of a bottleneck will my CPU be for gaming with new 7950gpu?

I couldn't resist the recent deal and picked up a MSI R7950 Twin Frozr 3 with four games. It's replacing an ATI 3850. My CPU is an old socket 939 dual core opty overclocked to match the FX-60 with 2gb's of ram. It's been a thoroughbred for the last 7 years. I'd like to at play at 1080p but could go down to 1600x900.

My question how much will this CPU hinder my game experience? Will Crysis 3 see a noticeable decline in fps? I can dump some old systems and stuff on CL to justify a new build.

If I go the route of a new cheaper build what do you guys think of AMD FX-6100? Any suggestions?

That's a really old CPU. Your definitely not getting the full benefit of your new GPU. Invest in a new system for sure. But not the...
my phenom II 955 bottlenecks my 7870 by a small amount and your dual core is a lot older so it will bottleneck a 7950 a lot.
i had a 4200+ dual core and it bottlenecked an old 4850 i had till i upgraded to my current cpu.

a fx6300 and asrock 990fx extreme 3 would do well, you will also need to buy new ram for it aswell.
if you spent a bit more you could get an fx 8320

You will not get good frame rates on crisis 3 but many other games you will. If you are going with a new build you should get the fx 6300, because the 6100 just isn't that great for gaming. I own a system with a 6100 and it doesn't work like it should with some games.

Thanks for your input guys. My CPU is old but not as old as CooLWoLF's K6-2 avatar! I have two of those builds still in the basement....

Its actually an Athlon XP M 2500+, one of my favorite CPUs that I've had and overclocked. That was a great chip! My current rig has an FX8350 OC'd to 4.5ghz :)
