I am unable to find any data on my hard drive after moving it from an old cpu to an external hard drive port.

My old computer has recently stoped working, so I opened it up and removed the hard drive, a Samsung model: HM500JI with 500Gb, and connected it via an external USB port to my new computer (windows 8). My computer can find and identefy the hard drive however when I open the hard drive from the "computer" menu non of my old files are found. Likewise my computer insists that the hard drive only has 99Mb of storage. I have set access to full control for all users without result. How do I find my files.

Solution
which usb enclosure or dock are you using?

wait - 99mb sounds like the 100mb system partition win7 creates.
Go into diskmanagement (run diskmgmt.msc) and see if the drive is listed there. if its showing the other partitions you may just need to assign a drive letter to the partition you want to see. if this is from a prebuilt, like HP or Dell, then you will probably have another partition or two (restore & maybe diagnostics)
