I recently built a budget gaming PC and it's been a terrible experience so far .
This was my first homebuild and I have a few friends who have done it all before so I felt pretty confident. When I first turned the power supply on I figured something would not be working, I hooked up the 6 and 2 pin power cable to the CPU at first. Beyond that, I was proud to say I didn't make any hook up mistakes.
First I turned on my power supply and the Green LED on the motherboard turned on. When I pressed the power button nothing else happened. I took it to some of my coworkers on our lunch break. They suggested that I tried to take the unit apart and put it back together. They also suggested I make sure the MOBO had been steated properly and that the standoffs had been properly installed.
I took everything apart and put it all back together. Since it still didn't work I took it to a local repair shop for diagnostics. The next day I got a call that my PSU was broken.
I bought a new PSU and replaced the old one. I can say that the repair shop was certainly correct about the power supply being faulty. On the first attempt to boot the system (after plugging in and turning on the power supply) a red light from the case flashes in the front (an improvement!). I can hear a sort of staticy noise coming from the new PSU. If I had to describe it I would call it a mix between being static shock and the noise a car blinker might make.
