I recently built a budget gaming PC and it's been a terrible experience so far :(.

This was my first homebuild and I have a few friends who have done it all before so I felt pretty confident. When I first turned the power supply on I figured something would not be working, I hooked up the 6 and 2 pin power cable to the CPU at first. Beyond that, I was proud to say I didn't make any hook up mistakes.

First I turned on my power supply and the Green LED on the motherboard turned on. When I pressed the power button nothing else happened. I took it to some of my coworkers on our lunch break. They suggested that I tried to take the unit apart and put it back together. They also suggested I make sure the MOBO had been steated properly and that the standoffs had been properly installed.

I took everything apart and put it all back together. Since it still didn't work I took it to a local repair shop for diagnostics. The next day I got a call that my PSU was broken.

I bought a new PSU and replaced the old one. I can say that the repair shop was certainly correct about the power supply being faulty. On the first attempt to boot the system (after plugging in and turning on the power supply) a red light from the case flashes in the front (an improvement!). I can hear a sort of staticy noise coming from the new PSU. If I had to describe it I would call it a mix between being static shock and the noise a car blinker might make.

Here are the specs:
(OLD) PSU --- XFX PRO Series 750W Power Supply - Modular, Single +12V Rails, 80+ Gold, High Reliable 105°C Japanese Capacitors, 120mm Fan (P1-750B-BEFX)
(NEW) PSU ---Thermaltake TR2 TR-600 600W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

MOBO --- Asus Z87-A

Graphics Card --- GEForce GTX760

CPU --- Intel i5 4670

Case --- InWin Destiny Lite Mid Tower Case Only 1ABUAC--000030

does the sound come out of youre case or the psu specific?
psu= if you don't trust it get yourselve a corsair or seasonic psu
case= maybe it's you hard disk that's broken
are there other leds burning on your motherboard?

All XFX PSU's, as well as upper-end Corsairs are made by Seasonic. Cheaper corsairs, such as the builder series are made by CWT and can be hit or miss depending on the specific PSU. It's extremely rare that an XFX PSU will fail. Also concerned/amused that it was replaced by a Thermaltake TR2 - generally considered somewhat poor in quality.

It's even less likely that two new PSU's are both faulty. Your front panel power button may not be hooked up correctly or may have a break in the wire. Take a screwdriver/key/whatever and jump the leads for the power button on your motherboard.

about the motherboard standoffs - you have mobo standoffs installed only where there are holes in the motherboard, correct? no standoffs installed under other parts of the board.

@Josdekleijn --- Hard to say where the sound is coming from. It sounds like the PSU but the sound only occurs when the Case is turned on. I have options on the motherboard to light up other areas and when these are turned to the proper setting I can make other LED's light up.

@quilciri I will keep the info on the PSU in mind. The case is raised where the holes are and the standoffs go in a different area, I will remove them before trying again. I tried shorting the power leads and I got the same effect as turning the power button on.

There is a Large green LED on the motherboard that is lit. None of the POST leds light up.

So if I'm understanding correctly, all the parts are broken? Also Tried the memok! button and no dice.

Does the monitor come on at all, and if so, is there any error messages or other status symbols on the screen. Like
Do you hear any warning beeps, and if so, describe the sequence you heard - i.e. 1 short 1 long beep?

NB. Make sure you use the cables that came with the new power supply, don´t reuse old ones!
