Installed windows 7 then Ubuntu . Had them in a dual boot partition . Deleted ubuntu and got the errot: no such partition. Grub rescue. how do i go about solving this without using a repair disc?7
When you've transferred over your personal files, you can simply delete the old version completely. Then either use BCDEdit to reflect the only remaining boot possibility or use eth Boot tab in msconfig to eliminate unnecessary entries.
Put your Ubunto CD back in and run it as a Live CD by clicking on Try Ubuntu. Run a search of the file system in the hard disk for menu.lst and edit the Ubuntu entry out. Better still, delete the file completely then Grub has no part in the booting process.
Well I actually installed windows 7 again and now i'm dual booting windows 7. I want to uninstall the previous version so that I may just install the updates necessary for the newest boot of windows 7.

Well if I can access the previous Windows 7 how would I go about transferring files if I had any. Also wouldn't I get the same error as I did after uninstalling the Linux partition .
My reading of the latest situation was that you had two copies of W7 running in the same machine. Therefore, if I read it right you would just cut files from one system into the partition holding the later installation. Yes you would still have a dual booting message coming up at boottime but I described two ways of working round that.
Afraid not - programmes added to a Windows system go out the window with it and cannot be transferred. I suppose it ould be worth transferring over all the Programme Files (including X86 if appropriate) Programme Data and the Software entries for the game from the Registry. If you do the latter, make sure you get both lots - H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and H_KEY_CURRENT_USER. There's nothing to lose and it might just work.
One more thing is it possible to get a direct boot to only one version of W7 so that I may turn my computer on and walk away and come back to my computer prompting me for the password. What would transfer over the program files do if it's not possible to access things such as games on the newer installation. As for deleting the previous W7 do I just delete the partition?
