Interesting 'find' on Seagate 2tb drive with the new 1TB platters

My cousin needed more storage in his gaming computer so I stopped at bestbuy for him and grabbed a new 2tb that he had bought.

I had verified online earlier that it uses the new 1tb platters.

So naturally I was expecting to see some good numbers from a completely blank new drive. I had to get back home so I didnt have time to do much digging but the drive posted some rather typical numbers. Just doing a quick seq read/write it came back with 128MB/s Read and 136MB/s write. So then I ran the benchmark on his OS drive, a 75% filled Samsung F3 1tb, and it scored 136mb/s read with 148mb/s write. The drive is on the the intel sata 3 ports and using the latest iastor driver (z68 chipset motherbd). The F3 is on a intel sata2 port using the same driver.

Ideas?

Not sure if the 1TB platters really do anything ( seems like a gimmick to me). Always look for a read/write speed before you buy.

Oh i did. perhaps you didnt seee the anandtech link.

What was surprising is the F3 winds up being faster despite other reviewers benchmarks showing its (should be) slower.

I think Iwill grab a couple of the 3tb to test with myself so I can do some more unrushed testing. Perhaps newer firmware has dropped it performance some.
