Like the title says, will the AF120 Quiet Edition work with a fan speed controller.
Also, what would you guys recommend for a fan speed controller?
Finally what is the voltage step down adapter that comes with the AF120 and what is it for?

I would get the AF120 performance edition and use that with a fan controller. They are essentially the same, expect the quiet edition is a slow spinning version of the performance edition. (with a fan controller you can slow down the performance ed. to be a quiet edition)

Therefore, with the erformance edition, you can slow it down with a fan controller when you want quiet and speed it up when you need more air flow

The voltage step-down adapter is something you plug the fan into, then into the header (or molex) and it "chokes" the voltage going to the fan, making it operate slower and quieter. The same as any hardware or software controlling a 3-pin fan would.

I'm with OCZdude8 on this one. Go ahead and invest in the performance edition for the extra headroom.

As for fan speed controllers, I can't speak for hardware. For software, Speedfan is nice. Your motherboard may also have its own software for handling 3-pin fan voltages (Smart-Fan is one of many names, brand dependent.)
