i have q6600 with stock cooler never overclocked it but it is idling at 68c and i cant play games please help me.I dont know the right way of applying thermal paste

Solution
For most thermal pastes you need to clean the old stuff off with at least 91% alcohol and then put a small dab, about the size of a small pea or a grain of rice, then install the CPU cooler.

Make sure that the white parts of the push pins are flush with the motherboard before you lock them in place though or it may not make proper contact.
