Will I Face CPU Bottleneck?

Hi folks!

So here's my situation, I have an FX-6100 in my computer. When I built it a year ago I got a Radeon 6770 for practically nothing. I want to upgrade the GPU, I recently bought a GTX 660 new for $170, however the same day I bought the card, numerous articles started to pop up claiming AMD had fixed the microstuttering experienced in CrossFire with the Catalyst 13.8 update. I have until September 16th to return the 660. What I would like to know is should I stick with the 660 and eventually sli that, or return it for a 7950 3gb to eventually CrossFire that card? Would a 760 2gb sli work better than either of those? I am worried that with either option I will be facing a CPU bottleneck. I intend to run a triple monitor set up and would like to keep all three monitors after when playing games. I know Starcraft II and Shogun II are both CPU intensive games and those are the type I like to play, in addition to Civ V and BF3. Would I be wasting time and money by trying to pair those GPU's with my current CPU?

This post is full of hypotheticals.

All you need to know is a 7950 is faster than 660.

Would any of these combination of GPU's cause bottlenecking on my CPU (Sli 660's, CrossFire 7950's, or a 760 4gb)? Also, would Sli 660's with only 2gb of VRAM each be able to support a triple monitor setup at 5760 X 1080 resolution or would I need to CrossFire? Finally, did 13.8 actually solve the micro-stuttering problem in CrossFire?

Sorry for being snippy earlier, internet in Afghanistan is sketchy which screwed up my fantasy football draft this morning and it's been a while since I had that thing people call a decent night's sleep.

"Bottlenecks" will vary by game. For most games the GPU is the limiting factor, so get the best one you can afford. The de facto answer to "will my CPU bottleneck...?" questions is "probably not for gaming." If you have a GPU good enough to peg a modern +4-core CPU in a game, unless it's terribly coded, you're probably not hurting on FPS anyway.

2GB VRAM is probably cutting it close for 5760x1080, depending on the game and settings. I know 1GB isn't enough for highest settings at 1920x1200 in BF3, but it hasn't been an issue in any other games.

I would advise you to get a single 2560x1600 or 2560x1440 monitor instead to a triple-monitor setup. Everyone I know that's done both prefers the single large monitor.

I don't notice any micro-stutter at all on 13.8.
