I have bought this Asus DRW-24D3ST DVD Burner Internal Optical Drive (Black) it does not spin at all even thought the light blinks. i checked it at my friends place it reads and write well. I have installed windows 7 i tried deleting registry files as i saw all over the net it didn't help also i tried microsoft fix it it also not helped can anybody help me out.

Make sure the power cable is snug along with the data cable to the mobo, , if that doesn't help try plugging the data cable into a different SATA port, still no joy make sure you have the latest drivers for the SATA controller on the mobo - might also try a different SATA cable
i have tried sata cable interchanging i had three spare i checked each and every one at my frns place all worked also diff ports sata i have tried on my mobo
regarding power cable the light blinks the cd drive come out and goes in so is there a possibility that power cable is causing the problem. ill check if can try plugging properly and changing the cable also.
regarding drivers when i go to device manager and try updating it says up to date i have gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L

which driver are you saying to disable. i can directly disable the device from device manager. i think this all started with windows seven also i m gona format in some days after that also if there is a problem then i think it the motherboard to be blamed.

does a cd drive with sata cable need any drivers if yes i dont knw
and what are sata drivers i do not have any idea please can you please elaborate why sata drivers used. like audio drivers for sound lan drivers for internet and so on . bcos if sata drivers are not installed then it shud also affect my HDD
i myself have actually found the solution to the problem i interchanged the HDD power supply to DVD drive and it started working fine thanks though and now i have bought an extra power cable to replace the faulty one so that my hdd and dvd both together.
