Radeon HD 3850 AGP for Streaming Video

I got given a really old computer that I've just fixed and rebuilt, and since it has a TV card I intend to hook it up to the tv in our flat to use as a way to stream video, mainy through SkyGo.

The current GPU it has is an ATI 9200, and unsurprisingly Sky's fps was really low, and since the computer wasn't slowing in general and the sound wasn't lagging I'm assuming it's the GPU.

I was looking to get the HD 3850 512Mb because the mobo has AGP and no pci-e, will that be sufficient for my needs? If not do you have any suggestions for what might?

The specs are:
-Pentium 4 2.8GHz CPU
-ATI 9200 GPU
-2GB Ram
-600w PSU

The Radeon HD3850 AGP is very much overkill for just streaming video. In fact, I'm very surprised that the Radeon 9200 isn't working (of course, this assumes you're still running Windows XP). Unless there is some minimum graphic requirement for SkyGo that the 9200 doesn't meet, I'd contact them and ask why.

If they do respond that it's a graphic card issue, I'd probably be looking more towards an HD2400/2600 series AGP graphics card.

Also make sure that you have the latest drivers that will work with that card installed. From what I could tell that would be Catalyst 6.11 Display Drivers. And it looks like Windows XP x32 is it as far as support goes. Amd does not show drivers for anything higher than that.

Personally I would not spend any money on a rig that old. Save your money and build a new rig that would be the best solution.
