I am trying to run the over provisioning tool in the Samsung Magician software on my 840 pro 128gig. Up top it says "Note:Using a raw partition may damage your data"...does anyone else have that message in beige colored text? Also the little refresh circle keeps spinning and after about 2 minutes it tells me "Please check that the drive is not being used by another process"...is this normal? I am fully patched on W7 64bit.

Thanks! :)

I have an 830.. on my Win7 64 bit machine,,, I do get the message about RAW format.. but since I not using anything that might use RAW.. I not worrying about it.
I don't get the "please check drive is not being used" message..
You using Magician 4.1?
I do get a "you don't have space to set OP" type message.. but I suspect that's because its getting confused with the disk encryption software I use (its my work machine).

Cheers

Me too.

But when Microsoft were remotely on my computer the other day trying to get Windows 8.1 preview to work with my Windows 8 Pro code, they changed my SSD to not have over-provisioning and deleted some part of a partition via windows system Disc properties or something.

They left me to fix it myself after quitting and telling me to do a full re-install of Windows 8 Pro on top of Windows 8.1 pro? Preview. Over a hundred hours wasted, and over a hundred hours more work to go to get my computer back to how it was when W8.1 preview was working properly till I updated my Win 8 Pro code into it; when it all stopped playing nice.

I created a similar partition (its in black on the drive) but dont know what else to do.

Like you said; something to do with RAW data; as the Samsung SSD Pro and W8 use some specific drive arrangement detail or other.

Anyway; its something to do with the format of the partition not being correct; I`m fairly certain.

Go to services.msc. Turn ON Disk defragmenting service, restart Magician, try over-provisioning, it should work. Alternatively, once you turn the service on, go to Disk Management, Shrink 10% of your total drive space, leave it unallocated, and that's it. Then you just have to the service back off.

You have to activate the Disk Defragmenter service. [Go to Services->Disk Defragmenter->Set 'Startus Type' to Manual] (if it has been on 'deactivated'.
