Hey there guys,

I'm currently preparing a parts list for my 1st computer build. The goal of the build is it build a computer that will be fast in after effects, premiere pro, photoshop, lightroom, and other adobe software. Now, I've many things and have had trouble deciding which CPU to get. So far, I have read Intel is good for Adobe Software but I'm currently deciding to choose i5 or an i7. Currently, the CPU I have in mind is the Intel i7-4770, but I don't know if this is the one I should go with, for I am not an expert. I will be doing most of my work in After Effects and Premiere Pro, and I want it be quick. I will be doing 3D work (meaning virtual 3D space, not steroscopy 3D). I really want to utilize the money I have to work as amazing as possible. I want it to be fast as possible so I can get a good output time for my clients. Thanks for all the help (in advance), Zach

Also, if there's another CPU that would be good for me, mention it and I'll look into it. And my maximum budget for the PC is $1,500.00

for rendering the i7 is the best and have a look at the more expensive LGA-2011 i7s

I was looking at some of the 3rd Generation Intel Core i7's but they are about the same price and the new Haswell has some advantages that I think are important to have. I compared the Intel i7-4770 and the i7-3820, which are around the same price, and the i7-4770 had a better performance score over the i7-3820.

the i7 4770 is good cpu but for multi threaded software the i7 3930k is better (6 core) but the i7 3820 is quad core similar to any other quad core i7

I also don't have $550 dollars to spend on the CPU alone. If I had a higher budget, I would definitely consider it, but I was hoping at maximum $350. Sorry, I didn't mention that.

I really don't know. This is something I'm not positive on, so do you think I should?

that cpu is so powerful even on stock clocks but sometimes it helps and you will need to buy an after market cooler to OC
i don't think you should do it

Can't overclock 4770, can overclock 4770k with Z87 board.

I would go 3770k + Z77 MB myself...not enough performance gap for the money to get the 4770k. Plus if you want to overclock the 3770k is actually the better choice.

oh forgot to mention that you need the "K" version to OC

Yes for rendering the 4770K is the preferred CPU and OCable, which also help it handle even faster DRAM - which also comes in handy for rendering

Why is the 3930k better for multi threaded software? Also what is multi threaded software?

Multi threaded software is software that benifits from more threads/cores such as rendering software.

The 3930K is a 6 Core CPU opposed to the 4 Core 4770K, both use Hyper threading
