My Macbook Pro (exact specs here) on which I run windows 7 via bootcamp, recently has run into an issue. It's rather old and worn at this point and has gone through several phases of problems during which it would not start and would overheat easily. After replacing the hard drive once, its only issue was the heating while playing games on windows for which I used ice packs which may or may not have gotten water into the laptop and caused the latest issue, but I've been keeping it cool that way for over two years without any problems.

Last week, however, after installing almost 200 mods for the game Fallout New Vegas, I started up the game, loaded my last save, and right when the game started the Macbook shut down and started beeping, 5 second intervals, continuously. This was not an option on the Mac help charts, the closest ones were "5 beeps then stop" and "3 beeps with 5 second intervals then stop", but there was no option for continuous beeping, at least that I could see. The two closest options were "No Ram Detected" and "Ram failed integrity check" which makes sense if my game overloaded my used ram somehow and/or caused electrical problems.

After leaving it overnight, it decided to turn on, although it was slightly dimmer and I could tell something was amiss right away. Actually, I guess the dimmer screen was the only clue. Nevertheless, it shut down about 15-20 minutes in, right when I tried loading my save again. It then started to beep again, but when I let it sit for another few hours, it would turn on, still dimly lit, and shut down in 15-20 minutes no matter what I was doing. Booting up the hard drive into Mac also caused a shutdown in the same amount of time.

So, I figured I'd have to take off the bottom and try switching the RAM, then try using only one then the other to see if the RAM was indeed the issue, but I figured I'd come on here to see if anyone has experienced anything like this and/or can tell me how I should go about fixing it. I've never taken one apart and although I'm not technologically inept, I want to use that as a last resort.

Also I might have some sticks of RAM lying around for another, newer Macbook Pro that I could potentially replace them with, so if there is a problem with hardware, I do hope it's the RAM. Thanks for the help!

Not sure why this was moved to OS X when it has nothing to do with mac software, only hardware which is the same as other hardware.

Apple's generally have good system sensors and temperature control, Did you down-load and install the Apple support disk?
If not you probably fried the main logic board.
