I have the following:

600W power supply
660ti geforce gtx (asus)
250 geforce gts
P6t Standard mobo (asus)
i7 920 intel processor with upgrade heat sink (which is good i know)
Good ram chips 3 channel 24gb ram
plenty of fans to cool
Several hhd with 2tb raid has the os win 7 ult

My question is it time to upgrade processor? Here is why i ask, its not beacuse its old.

Woke up this morning computer froze and tryed to restart. impactient i pressed the provided restart button on computer case. When the system started back up all i got was black screen. that is, no desktop, no icons, no explore windows. I was able to get task manager up and tryed to run
'explorer.exe' but that didn't work. tryied to run system restort, it got all the way to finish and froze. manually restarted the machine and it eventually came back to the black screen, and then eventually (hours later) the icons poped up, but everything moved slow.

went to store to pickup a ssd hard drive, unplugged all of my hard drives from the mobo and i am trying to install windows 7 again to the new hard drive, but it is taking forever, i think i can safely say longer than usual.

I am wondering since the computer is moving soooo slow, should i get a new processor. Up until yesterday my computer was moving fast.

Your CPU may be going out...it's pretty rare, even with Intel, though it does happen.

It may be time to upgrade...worse case scenario, it wouldn't hurt your performance any to get something a bit newer. You could probably pick up a decent Z77 MB and a good sandy bridge CPU like a 2600k or 2700k
