DIY NAS raid question

I was wondering if I were to get a 4 port raid card could I run a raid 5 with those and have a boot SSD running off the motherboard. Thanks

While I would not recommend an ssd for a NAS but to answer your question, yes. That is typically how its done. The OS gets its own drive. That way you dont run into issues with your data drives when you need to format the OS drive/ reinstall or something.
