Windows 7 Computer Problems

A few weeks ago my computer began encountering weird errors such as windows not responding and forcing me to restart it about half the time I would boot it up. Over time it got worse and even got to the point that every time I booted it up it would crash as soon as I logged in. I tried fixing it and I've gone in way over my head. The theme of the computer was changed, internet and sound no longer work, and a large portion of windows 7 programs, such as backing up files or system restoring, no longer work. I think it is either a problem with the hard drive or windows 7 because I was able to boot up ubuntu through a flash drive but was unable to see the other hard drives while in ubuntu. It is a dell studio xps with an i7 and has two approximately 650gb hard drives, one of which says error when I boot up. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks
