Simple doubt about PSU 8 pin and 4 pin connector, need some help!!

Hi guys how are you?

I just bought a new CPU and a new Motherboard in a store and the store mounted it for me with my other pieces

But now i have a question, take a look at the picture:

The guy of course used the 24 pin connector and as you can see this MB has an 8 pin and one more 4 pin connector

Ho here is the question, he only used the 8 pin connector(red arrow), the 4 pin one is not plugged (blue arrow) with the PSU cable is it correct or should i plug both? If the answer is only the 8 pin why the MB have both?

I`m using here a 4770k @4.5 with a H110 2 GTX 780 in SLI and the PSU is a Coolermaster SilentPro Gold 1200W

If the PSU has the extra connector, you might as well use it.

It's really a gimmick though; you're never going to draw enough to stress those connectors. Hell, you could use 5A per pin, get 120W from a four-pin.

Both supply power to the CPU in the same way. But, the reason why this motherboard has 8+4 connectors is so that it can get MORE power without burning up your PSU wires while overclocking. So in normal usage, you can get away with a single 4 pin connector. If you are going balls out overclocking, you can connect all 8+4 and not have to worry about power issues provided your PSU can handle it. See what I mean?

Check your owners manual for sure, but my mother board manual states that my warranty will be void if I don't use both of the connectors. Like others have posted, it also helps you from burning up a rail on your power supply. Not only does that connector supply power to the CPU, but also your PCI cards, so if you are planning on using a high end video card (or 2) make sure you use both connectors.

Yes my PSU have 2 2x4 pin connector cables so the pin at the board had the 2x4 one and now i only need to use the one part of the other 2x4 pin of the PSU to connect the over energy slot at the board right? Can i use any part of the 2x4 to this connection?

One half will fit easily, one will need forcing.

Make sure that the 8-pin is a CPU connector (aka EPS), and not PCIe/GPU.

No i was looking here at my MB box and it says that i has one 20 pin + 4 pin and two 4+4 pin, so i just need to connect any part of this other 4+4 pin right? Any 4 part pin?

You should be using one 4+4 pin for the 8-pin connector, and half of the other for the 4-pin.

Whre can i let the other half of the pin? Is there a problem if i let in the top of the case, i mean is there a problem if the pin touch the case? Should i use some isolated tape in the other half?

It's fine, so long as the pins don't actually touch any metal - they're coated in plastic, so it should be fine.

Biggest issue is running into fans.
