Laptop for $3000 budget

Hi everyone. I need to buy a high-end laptop for extreme gaming that will be able to play games at ultra settings. I was looking at the msi GT70 and the alienware m18x earlier, which did pack in some serious power.. I dont mind going slightly over my budget because I am looking at purchasing the best of the best right now.Anybody with other ideas as to what to buy?

Yeah I get that a bit... but do you want to WORK with a laptop keyboard and screen? Probably not.... That means at work you have a monitor + keyboard + mouse ... and the same at home... or bring those with you. $1200 desktop gets you a quieter, longer lasting system than any laptop (SLI in laptop is going to be murder on fan noise and heat). So get 2 desktops, one for work one for home and buy a $600 laptop that is more portable. Maybe its personal opinion on how terrible a laptop is to actually have to do long term work on one. I can't stand it.

Alienware, The newest G series from Asus, XoticPC will let you customize all sorts of different laptops, Lenovo y5xx can get up to SLI graphics

If $3000 is your budget I would leave room for...

A ..... Desktop and then an ultrabook. In all seriousness. Any laptop you get specially for "extreme" gaming will weigh as much as filling your backpack with bricks and always have to be plugged in. Maybe you should clarify certain things like what your situation is or how you plan on using it

Here's the thing. The company I work for deals with graphics and 3d animation as well as video designing and editing, so a top-of-the-line graphic card is a must for me (the 780m SLI comes to mind). I did consider a desktop because I know I would get more value for money, but it simply isn't portable like a laptop. I would have to carry the tower, the huge monitor, the keyboard, the mouse and a ton of cables over to my workplace on a daily basis and then I have to reconnect and set up everything there before returning home and doing the same in my home.

As you see, it will be too much of a hassle. A laptop, however, can be easily loaded in my car and brought home without worrying about cables and all that stuff. Besides, I am also an avid gamer (something I do every weekend), so the laptop can also satisfy my gaming needs without compromising portability. That would be the reason I am gunning for a laptop and not a desktop for my daily needs.

Looking at your post, I'm guessing the alienware m18x will probably offer you the most bang for your buck considering that one version of it does contain a 780m sli. It does weigh almost 6kg though, but since you are using it for work and carrying it in a car rather than lugging around a backpack like college students, it should't be too much of a problem. Have a look at the Sager models too, I believe there is one with a 780m SLI that might satisfy your needs.

If $3000 is your budget I would leave room for some nice monitors (laptop screen + 1 22"+, maybe even laptop + 2x screens?) and Possibly leave room for a docking station for the laptop

Thank you for the suggestion. I might cut down on my budget to get a bigger monitor screen, just like you said. Xoticpc has always been my favourite for laptops and I will definitely refer to them again. I am still considering getting a desktop after your fair point about laptops and the likes of it, so I guess I will have to weigh my options first and decide what would be best for such a high budget, considering that desktop graphic cards are so much more powerful than it's laptop equivalent. In the meantime any other input would be appreciated. Thanks again for taking the time to suggest stuff for my budget.Cheers.
