Hi, I wanna know whats the best fan settings for my graphic card using MSI Afterburner or is it best to leave it at Auto. I am using a Gigabyte GTX760. I played around with the settings a bit and made it go 50% speed when its at 50C and 55% speed when it hits 65C. What's the optimal settings for it? I am currently hitting 58-61C on BF3 with the current settings. Is 50-60% speed too high and will it shorten my card lifespan? I never hit 50% speed before when it was on auto.

Well that's a lot of fans, surely your system is getting a lot of air. 3C for me isn't worth the extra 10% effort of the fans. But that's just me bro.

It's just fine. The cooler the components, the better. But yea, you also run the risk of burning the fans when you run it at 80%. I'm guessing the fans would burn out about 5 years. So do you think you still have that card after 5 years? :)

I am trying to lower the temperatures as much as it allows. I won't be running the fan at 70% let alone 80%. True that I won't be using this card after 5 years but who knows it might die at any given time (Sh*t happens sometimes). I still want an answer for the optimal fan settings like what speed should my fan be at a certain temp etc. I just played BF3 with my fans on auto and I hit 64C max on 48% speed compared to the custom fan settings which hit 61C max on 53% speed. 5% speed for 3C.. seems OK. I am going to continue testing but do you think if my card runs at 55-60% speed constantly for about 5-6 hours daily, would that be OK?

Yea that would be fine running it at manual. But if I were you, I'd just set it to Auto. You know, the programmers and engineers put a lot of time to run those GPUs on their optimal settings, right? :) So there.. But it's still up to you. Run it manually at 60%, it's still cool. Run it at 70%, it will be cooler. For optimal settings, a lot of testing needs to be done and a lot of factors need to be calculated and tested. For example, your ambient temp, how many fans, how much airflow you have, dust buildup. etc...

Glad to hear that would be fine. Yeah, I understand that but like I said, I am just playing around with it to see if a manual setting is better than auto. I will only run it at 60% MAX until 70C because I don't want my card to shorten my card lifespan and I haven't hit 70C yet on every game that I've played on Auto settings. I am testing right now. Just finished with Sleeping dogs with everything maxed out. 57C max : 56% 2490 RPM on Manual settings and 60C max : 44% 1950 RPM. I used the in-game benchmark mode to get those temperatures. I still can't decide for myself whether the 12% increase in speed fan is worth the 3C difference though. Ambient temp is around 33C, 6 fans in my case 3 exhaust and 3 intake, not sure bout airflow and I have dust filters for all my intake. Just got my computer last month so there's really close to no dust.

70 degrees soudns quite low for thermal throttling I hope not. I have a fan curve in MSI Afterburner right now. It's being set at 20% speed @ 35C - 49C. and 50% speed @ 50C - 1% speed increase with every degree increased. So 60C = 60%. I hope that is fine or should I lower it?

I've had a pair of 560Ti's who's fans died in little over two years and I have a six year old 9500GT that has a splendid little fan that still works perfectly, quite simply there is no way to tell how long a fan will last and the manufacture of the card just has to hope it makes it past the 12 month warranty period.

Strangely, I can't seem to find any difference in temp when using Furmark. I am thinking of going back Auto settings but I will do a little more testing before I decide. and I agree 3C isn't worth the extra 10%. I think the 10% extra speed is prob going to kill the fans faster than an extra 3c heat.

Yeah so I just set my fans back to auto and its on 20% at 35C and 48% on 62C. I am just gonna leave it on auto unless it reaches 70C which I doubt is gonna happen anytime soon :). I also didn't know there are aftermarket GPU coolers out there! I will take a look at it but most prob not gonna invest into one. Thanks for the help btw!
