Intel Motherboard Question

Solution
The 2600K is a faster processor, but he already has an i5 according to his specs. If he were to buy a new cpu with a motherboard he would be better off buying a Haswell setup instead of old tech.

My MSI is able to overclock to 4.2 with the Overclock Genie button. I got it from Newegg, and it's got the i7 2600k processor on it.

MSI P67A-GD53 rev. B3 motherboard
Patriot Gamer 2 DDR3 1333 ram Model PGD34G1333ELK (4 x 2GB)
Intel i7 Sandybridge 2600K

To overclock to 4.2GHz you need a (k) subscript on the CPU...typical clock is around 3.0 these days, and stock processors are limited to that, generally speaking. So when you choose your CPU look for (unlocked) (k)

By the way, the MSI and 2600k can clock faster. Water Cooling is desirable, if not necessary for faster clocks. I use a Zalman CPU cooler. Properly installed cooler is needed, and remember, when you push the limits, the CPU WILL wear out faster, and die sooner.
