Which would you upgrade first?

Hi all,

I currently own an ageing computer that's starting to struggle with most recent games, the spec is as follows:

AMD Athlon II x2 250
4gb RAM
8800GT
22" 1080p Monitor
Windows 7

I've decided to upgrade so I can play games at higher settings (Planetside 2 at high settings would be lovely.), the downside is that I can't afford to upgrade it all at once, so the options are to buy a motherboard bundle this month OR a graphics card, I'm tempted with the following:

I5 4670k @ 4.2ghz - pre overclocked in the bundle I have found
8gb Ram

760 GTX

Which do you think I should purchase first?

Solution
Motherboard, CPU and RAM.
The 8800GT will hold you back no doubt (though its a pretty legendary card), but a lot less than an Athlon II X2 would a GTX760.

If the overclocking option is an extra cost, dont bother. A 4.2Ghz overclock is easy to achieve, you can do it yourself with a cheap aftermarket heatsink (which you will want if your overclocking at all).

Neither will permit you to play PS2 at high settings on their own. I'm going to say CPU because its what you'll notice outside of games. The 760 will be massively bottlenecked by your Athlon and in a CPU-heavy game like PS2 it will be worse. Trust me, I tried playing planet side with a GPU that should be able to play it(GTX 650Ti Boost) but an athlon II x2 like you but OCed to 4.08Ghz. It wouldn't run at lowest settings and resolution.
