Hi guys..
My 7950 HD died by using furmark, and i'm about to RMA it. But i'm curious, can they actually see if i overclocked? Theres no damage on the card physically, looking brand new. But im afraid of if they fix the card and turn it up, that my OC settings are still on? Is there a way to reset the settings on that card, or is it already reset? i managed to uninstall the AMD driver and reinstall windows 7 and install the AMD driver again, Are the clocks gone or still the same by doing this?

No they cant know it was overclocked. NEVER use furmark, its crap.

Your OC won't be on since its software OC, not hardward.

Your fine, just RMA it.

if you don't touch the BIOS on the card, then you OCing by software, like Afterburner or even the catalyst software, in this case, the OC is only by this software, not on the card itself, however if it died using Furmark, they'll see it as it's a common issue like NVIDIA installed a throtling features on all their cards as people were burning all cards using Furmark...

They'll know you were doing that but i don't know if they'll cover this or no...

I just told them that i was playing and suddenly it crashed and wouldnt boot etc. It had lots of artifacts and green lines. Then the company replied its a typical graphical error and i will get a replacement , if they find the card dead, which it is.

And how can they see that it died specifically by furmark? Theres no sign of any burn marks or anything else on the card.. Here is what happened :

I've ran it at 1150 core and 1500 memory at 1.25v. It ran perfectly fine in games at about 72-75c. so i tried to run Furmark and see how high it would go in degress. I ran it for 20 secs, and it hit 80. so i said to myself, if it hits around 87 i'll close the benchmark. So it got to 88, and i closed it, right as i close the benchmark, my pc shuts down. I boot up, get to the windows 8 loading screen, and then it turns black. i can't get further.. only in Safe mode. And there it shows i have no drivers for graphics at all.. Since i can boot up and reach the loading screen, then it must mean its not dead? What do i do?

Furmark burn cards by overstressing them, generally, on NVIDIA cards that was always the VRM assembly that burn and destroy the power delivery of the card, that wasn't visible until you lift the VRM heatsinks, then you know that it was burn as caps was bigger, and some just explode (that said they wasn't using solid caps, ferrites chokes and newer better components in general)

Well what clocks and voltage did you have the card on?

1150 mhz and 1.25v, the card didnt even get to 87c before it crashed. Cant they burn even though you dont use furmark? Just tell them it burned while i was playing because it got too hot?

it can be possible i guess with really high OC as VRM always run hot and runs hotter when Oced with higher core voltage, the problem is furmark stress fully 100% when game will never use totally 100% of the card, the video engine is off or almost in game while the 3d part is fully active... But i guess it's surely happening sometimes...
