Installed Windows 8 OEM / MB is now dead. Must I purchase a new OS?

A few months ago I upgraded my PC with a new SSD and installed a new copy Windows (Home) 8 OEM.

Recently my computer stopped working completely and a local computer shop verified that the Motherboard is dead. There is still time left on the motherboard's warranty but I am not able to get an identical motherboard.

Am I legal in attempting to swap to a similar motherboard with all other hardware being identical? (I am also hopeful that I don't have to completely reinstall Windows)

Any help is greatly appreciated!

You should be fine on the licensing, if you have any doubts, call MS.
As far as reinstalling windows, thats a 50/50 chance, and the only way to find out is to throw the new motherboard in and fire it up.
