Hi guys, and thanks in advance for any and all advice. I'm looking to build a file-sharing, data storing office server using Windows Home Server 2011. My office has about 4 Windows 7 based PC's that are networked together. We use basic software like QuickBooks 2013, Lotus 123, and Microsoft Office. We don't do any video streaming, or use anything really taxing on our systems. What I'd like to do, is centralize the different software's we use, as well as all the data files we access. As it stands now, one PC stores the QB data, while all our other files are scattered all over the different individual PC hard drives. This makes finding needed files a bit difficult. Plus, by putting them all on a central server, I'll be able to back up our data more efficiently. So, here are the components I've put together for this budget build. As a point of reference, I've built about a half dozen or more PC's in recent years.
OS: Windows Home Server 2011
MICROCENTER BUNDLE - $89
CPU: A6-6400K Black Edition 3.9GHz Socket FM2 Boxed Processor
MOBO: MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 FM2 AMD A75 (Hudson D3) HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) - $38
Case: DIYPC Skyline-A Black Steel USB 3.0 ATX and Micro-ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with 1x 80mm Fan - $30
HDD: Western Digital WD Blue WD5000AAKX 500GB 7200 RPM
PSU: Corsair CX430 - $20
Thoughts on the components? I guess questions I'd have is, do you think the CPU is powerful enough? I'd imagine so considering the use. Also, are the components compatible? I listed the Western Digital HDD which I have already, plus I have a pair of Samsung Spinpoint F3's that I plan to use as well.
I picked that board out of the Microcenter bundle options because it had the most SATA ports with 6. I also picked that case because it had the most internal 3.5" bays (6). Thanks for any and all comments.
