I'm looking at computers for 650 and under, these are the two I'm currently considering:

Asus R500A-BH71-CB

Asus R505CB-SB51-CB

Mainly these are gonna be used for school, light gaming (dota2/diablo kind of games), and maybe some photo/video editing if possible.

I'm confused about which hardware combination will give me more power gaming/video editing wise, the i5-3337u with 6gb ram and dedicated nVidia gt740m card or the i7-3630QM with 8gb ram and integrated intel hd 4000 graphics.

Solution

2-3x the graphical performance, seeing as the 740m is really a 650m in disguise.

yea, laptops.... this doesnt change the fact that the i5 is better for gaming (has a gpu) and the i7 is better for video editing....

hmm, looking at the benchmarks, the i7 is significantly higher rated than this i5 (seems like a low end power-saving kind of cpu)

how much better graphics would i get in a game like diablo 3 or dota 2 using the dedicated w/ i5?

im thinking if its not too significant i can sacrifice a little graphic quality for better overall performance

I would suggest you the i7 Because the i5 dual core cpu is pretty weak for Multitasking and you could get some lag at working on desktop, the intel hd 4000 is enough for light gaming such as Dota 2 or Even Wow on high settings
