I replaced my Asrock 970 extreme 3 motherboard with the new Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3, and now my cpu over heats to a really high temp like 80-90 Celsius in 3 min or so in bios and my heatsink is great. The cpu worked well with my old motherboard at 35-40 Celsius on bios. what should I do or replace.!?!?!?!?! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Solution
check the voltage going to the cpu incase for some reason the gigabytes not showing the correct voltage, also update the bios incase its not recognising it properly.
did you replace the thermal paste with new paste and clean off the old? if not then thats the problem.

clean off the old stuff with pure alcohol and then place a rice grain of new compound in the middle of the cpu and do not spread it, place down the heatsink and press it on firmly and give it a few light twists without lifting it off then clamp it down, if you lift the heatsink at anytime when the paste has been spread you will want to clean it off and start over.

Makes no sense. The only thing I can think of is that it is not secured properly. What heatsink do you have and does it use the AMD system or did you use a different backing plate.
