Hello all,

So let me paint the picture, I have an Xbox 360 that I use on a regular basis.

I stream Movies from Netflix and LoveFilm and play a few online games such as; Call of Duty and Battlefield (Battlefield for the win!)

So basically I have about 7-10 devices CONSTANTLY connected at once all which are; browsing, streaming or downloading. I live with 4 others who are doing such tasks on these devices. As you've probably guessed, me trying to game is impossible with constant lag, trying to stream is impossible due to constant buffering and downloading takes years.

I own a: Technicolor TG582n router.

This router supports NO Quality of Service application/interface at all. It's ridiculous.

Can someone suggest a third-party application that throttles bandwidth in a home network environment or can give me some advice on what I should do next. Pr if anyone has any experience/ extended knowledge on the router itself.

Many thanks, sorry for masses of writing, seriously hacked off with my router and the monkeys that programmed/designed it.

-Ryan

(Please no suggestions like; Buy another router, Change ISP etc.)

A switch is a device that will turn off all network like 1ms return on, on each port of it and that work for 100-200+ computer at the same time as each have maybe 5ms of internet, then shut off then 5ms again so that control the flow of the network without being seen by the end user as it's fast enough to not interrupt the service and give all the connection bandwith for all user (or almost as the more user = the more control so evantually you need multiple switch, multiple Internet services, etc. but for your less than 10 devices, you shouldn't have any issue...)

Here are some example of what it looks like...

I'm affraid that the only soution is changing your internet plan to a commercial one that won't be throttled by your ISP, paired that with a switch if you used all wired connection (that basically give each devices an equal part of the "internet time" then you connect your router behind to make wireless devices a little less important (they'll all share the same 1 connection of the switch and wired devices will have a part of it too

Anyway, even with QOS, you're not going to see a change in this configuration, i have a QOS enabled router and it's even worse when enabled with 2 phones, 3 PC, a server and a NAS, i have 100Mbit/s down and 40Mbit/s up and it's not constant trough the devices, sometimes got big lag, other times won't lag... I installed a switch for my 2 PC, my NAS and My Server and that resolve the issue, all PC have access to the full 100Mbit/s and i have 10-15ms ping all the time even if my other PC is streaming or downloading at full speed possible...

You installed a switch, this may seem like a stupid question but what actually is a switch? I've herd about it before..

I use this one for about 50$ that will do really fine for your setup, have QOS, bandwith control, you can select priority of traffic (VOIP, Streming, etc...), they even have a little diagram that'll explain the basics http://www.netgear.com/business/products/switches/prosafe-plus-switches/GS108E.aspx I buyed it from NCIX and have no issue for about 2 years now
