What's your take on this...

My friend gave me a HP G62-143cl laptop. This is 6 years newer than the one I use now.The reason he gave it to me "I broke it".
He plugged in the usb charger for a cheapo rc helicopter and said he could smell something wrong.Neither has worked since.
I first checked the laptop with battery only, with cord only, both.I could not get it to power up at all.I disassembled the laptop, thinking I would find something burnt looking on the motherboard. The usb he used is directly attached to MB.
I cannot see anything burned with my best magnifying glass. Also checked the power supply voltage which is rated 18.5v,It shows 14.5 approx. We have another p/s similar and it says 15v.
I found the exact MB on ebay for a reasonable price, but it bugs me I cannot see anything wrong.
Do you think maybe I won't see anything and It still is bad?

Thanks for any help,Much appreciated

Such damage is not always visible.
