I am planning a build, and like the bitfenix prodigy-M case. I have a 3770K, 1155 socket. I am toying with the idea of installing a single Radeon 8950, and when needed, installing the other in Xfire mode. I am confused about which motherboards can accomodate two double-wide cards without covering over a slot....how do I see this in the motheboard specs?

While this post doesn't really address your concern, it does help another person whom was considering similar hardware in a similar scenario.

In general, though, micro (m) factor motherboards don't accommodate multiple GPU, regardless of width. There are a few, but since there are many GPU manufacturers, there are many possible configurations. That said, manufacturers likely don't test the mobos with every available GPU, so the two best ways to make the determination are:
1. Check the QVL to see if the GPU you're interested in is supported; or
2. Send an inquiry to the mobo manufacturer tech support.

This information generally isn't covered in the motherboard specification. You could look for an odd number of total expansion slots (three instead of four), but in general, the only way to see if a double width card is going to block another expansion slot is through visual inspection.
