Hi Guys,

I want to upgrade my graphics card mainly for the upcoming release of Battlefield 4. I am currently using a MSI N560 GTX Twin Frozr II card which is a non Ti version. It runs BF3 ok at +-40~50FPS. I currently narrowed down my options to 2 choices one is the EVGA GTX 650 Ti Boost and the other is MSI HD 7870 or the 7850. I read a few reviews but 2 reviews stand out. Unfortunately they are a bit contradictory. The link is below.

The tech powerup seems to point out that the 650 ti Boost is clearly about 20 FPS faster in most games compared to the 560 Ti and only a small bit slower than the 7870. While the other one says that the 7850 is faster than the 650 TI Boost. Which one is correct? I have read that BF4 will be optimised for AMD hardware but I must admit I have always been an Nvidia fan.

My CPU is the i5 2400 with 8GB of Crucial Ballistix Sport Ram.

I live in Taiwan and the link at the bottom is an indication of my options

the exchange rate to USD is about 30 to 1 FYI

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

The 650Ti boost is almost on par with the 7850, a bit slower. The 7870 easily beats both. If these are your choices, the 7870 is by far the best. As for optimization for BF4, its probably going to initially be GPU and CPU from AMD, but in the long run, the only meaningful optimizations will be for AMD CPUs. This is because Nvidia will release drivers to offset their initial disadvantage.

ok I see you have the 650 Ti Boost. Is it good for gaming? Will is see the claimed 20 FPS increase from my GTX 560? Or would it be worth it overall to get the 7870? The 7850 is more expensive than the 650 Ti Boost in my country at the moment but if I wont see a noticeable increase in FPS then I might as well save up for the 7870. You have the 650 Ti Boose. What is your user experience?

The Boost is a very good card, but what you have to understand is that our situations are different. I game at 1280x1024 for now and I run it with an athlon II x2 OCed to 4.08Ghz. Some games don't run at all for me because of CPU such as planet side, however I can run tomb raider at ultra. It should play games on medium-high at 1080p, the 7850 should be about the same and the 7870 at high for sure with a small chance of ultra. I recommend the 7870 for you and a second choice of the Ti Boost. I got the Boost because it was cheaper then the 7850 in Canada where I live too.

price differ from brand to brand
in my country the ""EVGA"" gtx 650 2gb is euqal to the price of gigayte gtx 650ti boost 2gb LOLLLL

price can be different but in terms of performance
here is the chart
7750>gtx 650>7770>gtx 650ti>7790>gtx 650ti boost>7850>gtx 660>7870>660ti

now choose according to budget AND evga is expenisve brand don't know why gigabyte run's very well

7870 is a little bit ahead of the gtx660, however you can overclock it way higher than the 660 if you want to. if you dont overclock, it really comes down to personal preference since they are at a similar price and performance point

thanks guys you guys have been a great help in deciding. I think im going to go with Nvidia as I have always done. Im currently debating a MSI Twin Frozr model or the EVGA Super clocked model as they are both the same price almost. If EVGA is clocked decently I reckon I'll go with that one! Best solution was tough as I valued everyone's input so please dont be offended. Thanks again for the help guys!
