complete noob at pc gaming, i am looking into building my own for the first time and was looking for some advice.

current selections are?
i5 2500k cpu
asrock z77 extreme4 hdmi sata 6gb/s
gigabyte radeon hd 7750 2gb
corsair vengance ddr3 2x4gb 1600
psu still looking into but thinking of corsair 600w cx?
not decided on case but budgeting around 50-70
and windows 7 64 bit

i am on as tight a budget as possible but looking for something decent, but if you could recommend any changes you would make (being alot more experienced than me).

main use will be skyrim with mods, mostly armour and weapons etc not reallytexture and hd packs.

many thanks

What's your budget? Your CPU is a bit dated and your build is unbalanced: your CPU is too strong compared with your GPU. But if you could give me a budget I could help you with a build :)

It is mainly heavy on CPU compared with other games. However, the GPU is still the most important piece. If all you play is skyrim, get the i3 and a better GPU, say the 7850 or something, maybe 7870. The i3 runs just as well as i5 in skyrim, however in most other games it doesn't do so well. So if its just skyrim, go i3, if you play other games as much or more then go i5. In either case, if this is a gaming build you'll need better then a 7750.

well i am brand new to pc gaming so skyrim would just be a starting place since i loved it on xbox but seeing the mods made me really want a pc, so i think i would go for i5 for other games aswell. can you recommend any better gpu's for around the same money maybe an extra £50-ish? im not wanting to go too much over budget as it is getting close to christmas lol.
thanks

Its a very tough choice. I'll start with GPU and recommend the 7770. However if you will not end up mostly playing skyrim, then go FX-6300. It doesn't perform very well in skyrim compared with Intel however it costs less then an i3! Get that and a radeon 7870/50 and it will perform way better then an i5 and a 7750/70.

in that case if i went for the i5 with the 7870/50 that would give me a good setup for my budget?

Bulldozer was the letdown. Piledriver was the improvement.

That is a pretty good setup there and the 2500k is still a very capable chip.

if my gpu is the weak link, if i replaced it with say the gtx560ti would that help? or am i better saving an extra few weeks and getting 760?

Big gamble, iv heard second hand components are a no go.

So iv changed things 'slightly' from the first comment, again any recommended changes for better performance at roughly the same price or somewhere i can save on to make more for something else would be more than welcome.

I5 2500k or 3570k? Seen both around £170
Asus z68 gen3£120 or asrock z77 ext4 £100
Gtx660ti £160 or hd7870 £150
Corsair vengance ddr32 x 4gb £50
Corsair 600w builder
1tb 7200rpm hd

Still looking for case with bottom mount psu and will fit all components nicely, again i would appreciate advice as iv not worked out how to find out if thy will all fit LOL

Will be playn on 32" hd ready tv on hd if that matters.
Many thanks

As long as there is a warranty of some kind, second hand components are fine. Most of my rigs contain parts that were second hand when I bought them for my main rig.

Yeah i get a 12 month warranty on it, The CM storm scout is a nice case and has bottom mount for the psu, Id still say got the msi z77a its about the same price as the z68.
