I am trying to install a TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 N900 PCI Express wireless card, but I am having issues as the bracket that is attached to the card appears to be too long and does fit into the slot in my case. Also the card appears to be smaller than the PCI Express slot, even though it is a PCI-E card.

I can't seem to get it to align correctly or fit in to the slot at all and was wondering if anyone could offer some advice as to why this is happening?
Thanks.

All is sorted now. Turned out my only PCI-E slot was x16 so I didn't think it fit but found out it would work anyway.

The problem is with my case, in order to screw in a PCI bracket you have to snap a piece of metal off, and as I as initially trying to place the card into the wrong slot, there is now an exposed area at the back of my PC where there should be a bracket!

Is this is an issue due to dust/dirt damaging components and if so is there a solution?
Thanks for the help.

If you are talking about the removable "covers" on the pci slots, don't worry about missing one or more. They may let in some dust in some cases, but a quick shot of canned air will fix that.

What motherboard do you have? I find it very strange that there is no old time pci slot.
