How to use integrated graphics with two ATI 5450 graphic cards in an ASUS P8 motherboard?

Hi all,

I need to build a 6-monitor workstation for a surveillance video system, and would like to do it using an ASUS P8H77-M mobo, which is easily available in my country, and a Core i7 2600K or above, to use its hardware decoding with Lucid Virtu.

I have tried to do this several times, but always when I put one graphics card automatically it disables IGD, and I can not find a setting in the mobo UEFI to keep both graphical devices working.

I am aware there are previous posts on similar subjects (e.g. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/323380-30-asus-motherboard-graphics-combined-video-card?) but have not found the help I need. Your comments and insight are highly appreciated.

  1. Look in BIos, Advanced Menu, chipset, for 2 options:
    - Surround view: Make sure it's "enabled" (I think auto will disable the IGP when you put another GPU)
    - Primary video controller: select which GPU will be active at boot (note: windows manages the display itself, so this if just for BIOS).

Look at pages 2-19 and 2-20 of the motherboard manual:

You want to ensure iGPU Multi-Monitor is enabled. I would also suggest that you set the Primary Display to iGPU.

    Good luck!
