GPU causes PC to randomly shut off

Ok so my GTX 660 SC arrived today.

All fine and dandy, it slipped perfectly in the case, drivers installed flawlessly, I've played Minecraft flawlessly, then I play some higher tier games like; Empire Total War and Arma 2, both run 60 frames + on the highest settings. For about 5-10 minutes, then my computer completely shuts off, stays off for 3-5 seconds then starts up again like nothing happened.

It can't be the temperature of the card as it's running at 35 degrees, I checked using SpeedFan while running Arma 2.
The card requires 450w and my PSU is 500w.

CPU: i3 550.
Ram: 4gb.

I'am struggling to find out what's the problem as I've googled the problem and people are saying it's the temperature when in my case it's not. And the game doesn't even run long enough for the card to heat up enough.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have 4GB of Ram, but the minimum requirement is 2GB. I just don't understand.

And I've literally had the GPU in the computer for about 2 hours and it never used to shut off before I put the GPU in 2 hours ago. (if that made sense)

I just tested Arma 2 again at the Max settings, getting 55fps, was at about 61-66 degrees (and rising) before shutdown, them temps aren't high enough to shut the computer down are they? and I'am using SpeedFan

This may help you, I'am currently running a tiny game called SpinTires (this is the first time playing it and it's on max settings) It's quite a demanding game BUT I'am looking at the temperatures of my computer in SpeedFan, and none of them are going above 55 degrees, which makes me think it's a over-heating problem, I've been playing this game for about 20 minutes and my computer is running flawlessly... (if any of that made sense..)

Update: My CPU, GPU and Cores are not exceeding 55 degrees.

I'm having the same problem with my PC, built it in February watt calculator said I'd be fine with a 500 as it only used about 300 on my old set up, so I brought an EVGA 750w PSU which off is more then enough and like unsaid it just shuts down and restarts, not on all games tho... Now I brought an r9 280x which took me to about 600w'ish so my 750 should still be more then enough, but now every game I play causes it to shut down... I downloaded software called coretemp, and apparently I never go higher then 35 degrees so can't be over heating?? All I can think of is its a faulty PSU?

What do you guys think?
