Computer freezes after start up and in safe mode

Good morning
I have a laptop and as soon as i turn it on it starts as normal. I can click on icons and open up programs but as soon as it finishes loading up my computer freezes. I tried logging on and through safe mode and as soon as it loads up as well it freezes. there for unallowing me to do anything more. what can it be or what can i do ??

Right a few questions

What OS is it?
What laptop is it?
Is it still in warranty?
Do you have a recovery disk?
When did you last do a virus scan , and which program did you use?

Hello

it is windows
Its an HP
not in warranty
no recovery disk
i had last used the computer in march, thats when i did the last scan. i had not used the computer till sat. then on sunday it started doing the freezing. i tried running the microsoft essentials, but it freezes while it is running.
