3rd gen or 4th gen Intel I-7 - buying a new laptop.

Hey guys,

First of all, I'm new to the forum!

Secondly, the reason I came here is because I was looking into some information about the new Haswell processor. Since I'm not that in to CPU's, I was wondering what to do.

I'm looking into buying a new Lenovo laptop. This laptop has a 4th gen CPU (Haswell) On the other hand there is this ASUS laptop, which has a 3rd gen CPU (Ivy Bridge?).

So here's my question to y'all:

If I'm buying a new laptop, is it advisable to go for a 4th gen or a 3rd gen Intel I-7 CPU?

If you had IB, I couldn't recommend upgrading cause there's too little difference in features and performance.... but if buying anyway, it makes no sense at all to invest in "end of life" components.

Id advise against the Lenovo....they don't actually "make" laptops BTW, they resell what they but from ODMs.....

If you are buying an i7, I would suggest that you have one custom built to your needs.

So if you advise against the Lenovo, that would mean that you do advise me to buy the Asus? (with 3rd gen cpu)

Okay, I kind of misunderstood what you meant with 'end of life components' but now I get it!
I've been looking around for a Clevo distributor in Holland and I'm checking out what they've to offer me at the moment.
Thanks for your help, I'll report back if this has been the solution for me.

Tough call, I like Asus notebooks as I do have one. On the other hand, Lenovos are nice too. The hospital I used to work for use nothing but Lenovo desktops and laptops. They took quite the beating at times. It really depends on price and the rest of the specs of each.
