I'm currently using the fx4100 AMD bulldozer and Gigabyte M68MT-S2 Motherboard and want to upgrade my CPU. With Budget in mind am I better getting a fx6300/8350 at around £100 or getting a i5 3570k and new motherboard for £300

I want the cpu to last a few years and will be using a Gtx670 or HD7950 with it. (Does having AMD cpu and nvidia GPU matter?)

Main games I will be playing are BF4 and FF14 ARR.

Thanks!

Your better off sticking with AMD, an FX6300 should be a good upgrade if your going to be gaming. And when it comes to gaming you will not see a big difference between AMD and Intel Processors. Also it doesn't matter on what GPU you buy (AMD or Nvidia).

Ok honestly AMD CPU and Nvidia cards won't do anything wrong you'll be fine. I would honestly consider getting the FX8350 if your mobo has the appropriate socket for it. With Win8 the AMD will perform at par witht hat i5 anyway for the most part. I would definitely get the Nvidia GPU not that I have anything against AMD. I just heard that Nvidia has this new Shadowplay function that will allow you to record gameply without affecting performance sometime around October is the word at the moment! Which is very exciting news!

So yea save the money from getting a new mobo and snatch that 8350 if the mobo doesnt have the right socket then go with the 6300. If that shadowplay feature interests you then go with Nvidia if not then go with which ever has the better price at the moment whether it be the AMD or Nvidia GPU it won't matter. At the end of the day chips and v-cards are all preferrence. For me I like my GTX 670 doesn't mean I may never consider and AMD GPU though! ;) Hope that helps make your decision and answers your question?!

P.S. reason or mentioning Win8 for the AMD chip is because it by far better optimized for AMD chips than Win7 and provides much better FPS in games with that OS! When I get to my personal PC I will provide videos with results for ya!

on benchmarks the i7 dealed blows to the 8350 but the 8350 sent them right back
so amd is getting better and i preffer it over intel as it has the bang for the buck in this situation !

Thanks for bringing that up! But since they are both AM3+ sockets I thought they were compatible

Your board could be a 95W board, if that's the case, buy the 6300 and overclock it. You may need to update to newest version of BIOS if you haven't already though.

I promised you some links as to the increase in performance that the AMD chip get in Win8 but forgot to do it when I got home as I had a family emergency. You could try this link and let me know if it works. It's the link to the first video and there are 4 total parts to the whole thing. Might be useful information for you to help make your decision on which chip to go with.

Update: may have to simple google it since he link I had posted above didn't work properly I don't think. Google: PART 1 - Core i5 3570k vs FX-8350 The youtube channel is by a guy names Linus channel's called LinusTechTips.
